frieze masters 2017

5 October 2017
Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a curated exhibition of four female post-war artists who have never been shown together: Judy Chicago (American, b. 1939), Barbara Hepworth (British, 1903-1975), Ilona Keserü (Hungarian, b. 1933) and Barbro Östlihn (Swedish, 1930-1995).

These four artists are united in their unique explorations of abstraction. Each rejected the cold language of minimalism, instead conveying lived experience, the landscape and the body. Their work espouses affective colour and soft forms in evocative ways, and inspires visceral responses from the viewer. This presentation of painting and sculpture focuses on work made in Central and Eastern Europe and America in the 1960s and 1970s, and offers unexpected links between them.

5 - 8 October 2017. The preview is Wednesday 4 October.

Stephen Friedman Gallery is at Stand E7
