kendell geers in 'michelangelo and the 20th century’ at galleria civica di modena

The Fonazione Casa Buonarroti of Florence and the Galleria Civica di Modena celebrate the 450th anniversary of the death of Michelangelo with the exhibition ‘Michelangelo e il Novecento' (Michelangelo and the 20th Century), an event dedicated to the fortunes of the figure and the works of the artist over the course of the last century, which will open its doors to the public in Florence on 18 June, and in Modena on 20 June,to remain on show in both venues until October.

The works trace the influence exerted by Michelangelo. In the Florentine headquarters the collected works range from the beginning of the last century to the 1970s, while the Gardens are home to contemporary artists, including gallery artist Kendell Geers.

Kendell Geers' work ‘Relic 2' 2002 was made in likeness of Michelangelo's most famous sculpture ‘David'. Geers however made his replica ​​from polystyrene, alluding to the colour of the original material, and wrapped in yards of red and white tape.

Mapplethorpe, Ico Parisi and Thomas Struth.

The exhibition runs from 20 June to 19 October 2014.
