melvin edwards in ‘space force construction’ to commemorate v-a-c foundation’s new venetian headquarters

13 May 2017
V-A-C Foundation presents Space Force Construction, organised with the Art Institute of Chicago, for the launch of their new headquarters in Venice.

The exhibition looks at the international exchange of ideas opened up by early twentieth-century Russian artists, suggesting how we might re-conceive spheres of public and private life to bring about social change.

The exhibition includes Melvin Edwards' barbed-wire sculpture from 1970. Edwards' use of industrial materials such as wire and chain references narratives of entrapment and labour while keying into the geometric language of his Minimalist peers.

Space Force Construction runs from 13 May until 25 August 2017.
