rivane neuenschwander video work in via brasil at wexner center for the arts

1 February 2014
Gallery artist Rivane Neuenschwander and her some-time collaborator Cao Guimarães have their video work 'Quarta-feira de cinzas/Epilogue' 2006 included at Via Brasil, a Wexner Center programme focusing on contemporary art and culture in Brazil.

Screenings will run continuously seven days a week for the duration of February; a month synonymous in Brazil with Carnival. This captivating collaboration by two of Brazil's leading contemporary artists looks at the pre-Lenten party's aftermath (the video's title, in Portuguese, translates as "Ash Wednesday") from an insect's point of view. Ants scurry around in their own celebration, carrying stray confetti from the night before. The sound artists O Grivo created a delightful soundtrack of miniature sambas for this absurd, mesmerizing carnival.

The video will be shown in The Box, the Wexner Center's specially designed intimate exhibition space for film.

The exhibition runs from 1 February to 28 February 2014.
