The Herbert Gerisch-Stiftung Foundation present works by Yinka Shonibare MBE in the Exhibition Hall of the Kiel Parliament. In the space, Shonibare has two of his ‘Alien Flying Machines’ which bear a striking resemblance to the fantastical 15th century drawings of ornithopters by Leonardo da Vinci. Alongside these is a unique ‘Alien Child’ sculpture and the ‘Alien Flag Drawings’ which consist of twenty four collages charting Australia’s history of immigration. Shonibare uses alien subjects to explore the nature of racial prejudice, xenophobia and the idea of ‘otherness’, bred of fear and ignorance.

The exhibition at Kiel Parliament runs from 3 - 27 July 2014.
