Yinka Shonibare MBE will be a major name at this year's Miniartextil Como 2013, an International Festival of Contemporary Art in Lake Como, Italy. EROS is the theme of the 23rd edition of the Miniartextil art event, organised by the Cultural Arte & Arte Como which will open at Villa Olmo on 12 October 2013. The exhibition is unique in Europe and takes place annually to showcase contemporary textile art. The 54 finalists with works on display were selected from 43 participating countries by a panel composed of Luciano Caramel, Maria Cristina Cedrini and Vito Capone.
The participating artists and the visitors are called to abandon their preconceptions and rediscover the meaning of 'authentic, active and founding love'. The exhibition will include Yinka Shonibare MBE's 'The Crowning' 2007, an elaborate sculptural tableaux of two lovers in a garden setting inspired by a suite of paintings by Jean- Honoré Fragonard.
The exhibition runs from 12 October until 1 December 2013.
