YINKA SHONIBARE MBE COMMISSION FOR YALE CENTER FOR BRITISH ART, CONNECTICUT, USA

2 February 2017
Enlightened Princesses will explore the story of three remarkable German princesses: Caroline of Ansbach, Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, and Charlotte of Mecklenberg-Strelitz, all of whom married into the British royal family in the eighteenth century.

The display will also feature a new work created by Yinka Shonibare MBE (RA) specifically for this exhibition, which has been inspired by a meeting, in 1753, between Princess Augusta and Mrs. Eliza Lucas Pinckney, the owner of a slave plantation in South Carolina, which was then a British colony.

The exhibitions runs from 2 February until 30 April 2017.
