yinka shonibare MBE in 'tous de sang meles’ at mac/val, vitry en seine, paris

22 April 2017
Yinka Shonibare MBE features in ‘Tous de sang meles (all, blood-mingled)' at MAC/VAL in Paris, France. The exhibition invites artists who address issues of identity through their work and it will include Shonibare's ‘End of Empire' which features two figures dressed in the artist's signature Dutch wax batik fabric, seated on a mechanically operated Victorian style see-saw. This imagery imitates the shifting points of balance in world politics over the course of World War 1 and its colonial fallout.

‘End of Empire' was originally installed at Turner Contemporary, Margate, UK in 2016 as part of the 14-18 NOW programme of World War I Centenary Art commissions.

The exhibition runs from 22 April until 3 September 2017.
