yoshitomo nara launches waterloo billboard commissions, southbank centre, london

25 April 2016
The Hayward Gallery launches the Waterloo Billboard Commissions with a new artwork by Yoshitomo Nara. The humorous, manga-influenced piece, titled 'Marching on the Butterbur Leaf', depicts a young girl playfully encouraging passers-by to fall in step. It was created by Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara, who exhibited in the Hayward Gallery's group exhibition Walking in My Mind in 2009.

The billboard is the first in a series of large-scale commissions by international artists, occupying the prominent billboard site next to the Hayward Gallery, seen by tens of thousands of people crossing Waterloo Bridge every day.

The display runs from 25 April - 30 June 2016.
