David Shrigley in 'The Lightness of Being' at City Hall Park, New York, USA

Twelve sculptures by twelve different artists, including gallery artist David Shrigley, will be on display at City Hall Park this summer in a show called 'The Lightness of Being'.

An approach to artmaking that combines visual wit and material sensibility is central to the whimsical spirit of the exhibition. This sensibility can be seen both through the brightly colored, inverted pear-shaped forms of Franz West's untitled late work (shown for the first time), or the six human/animal hybrid figures in marble and bronze by Olaf Breuning. Young Swiss artist Cristian Andersen builds a tower of unlikely objects, while British sculptor Gary Webb creates a modular column of colorful painterly blobs. With a characteristic deadpan sense of humor, David Shrigley has cast a favorite old pair of flip flops in steel.

This exhibition is co-curated by Public Art Fund Director and Chief Curator Nicholas Baume and Associate Curator Andria Hickey.

The exhibition runs from 25 July - 13 December 2013.
