'If they come' (7 June–20 July 2019) is Deborah Roberts' first solo exhibition at Stephen Friedman Gallery and in Europe. Combining collage with mixed media, Roberts' figurative works depict the complexity of black subjecthood and explore themes of race, identity and gender politics. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication featuring an essay by Daniella Rose King, Whitney-Lauder Curatorial Fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia.
The publication was edited by Gerrie van Noord, and Jonathan Horrocks. Design and production is by Peter B. WIllberg. The publication was printed by Printmanagement Plitt GmbH. Photography is by Paul Bardagjy and Matthew Crowin.
