Kendell Geers in 'Dark Fantasy' at UTA Artist Space, California, USA

Dark Fantasy is a group exhibition at UTA Artist Space, California, presented in collaboration with Carpenters Workshop Gallery. Curated by gallery director Ashlee Harrison, the exhibition explores the concept of Archeofuturism through the 'functional' art of 24 artists from the Gallery programme.

Exploring the philosophy that excavating the past can shape future narratives, the exhibition guides the viewer through a whimsical world of the fantastic and the obscure, questioning the constraints of reality and what it means to dream. Highlighting traditional master craft as well as new technology and newly developed techniques, the exhibition displays 'functional' artworks that allude to bygone eras of production whilst toying with forms that hint at new possibilities.

Following on from the Carpenters Workshop Gallery exhibition, ‘DYSFUNCTIONAL' (2018), Dark Fantasy marks the first exhibition of Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Los Angeles. The exhibition is also the LA debut of Virgil Abloh's Acqua Alta series, a new site-specific installation by Studio Drift, a major work by Nacho Carbonell, and the premiere of Reclining Nude, 2019 by Atelier Van Lieshout.
