Kendell Geers in 'Insert' 2014 Cultural Program in New Delhi, India

The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation and HUB Foundation for Contemporary Art and Culture in New Delhi announce the launch of an exhibition and symposium to take place in early 2014 called INSERT2014. Designed to be a month-long exploration of Delhi as a landscape for creativity and transformation, INSERT2014 will examine the social, cultural and geopolitical role of the artist within the setting of an ever-changing city landscape and will feature a contribution from gallery artist Kendell Geers.

The Delhi-based artists' group Raqs Media Collective will oversee the four-week program that will be held at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) here. A major exhibition will be commissioned under INSERT2014 by Raqs that will bring together local and international artists to create site-specific works, based on immersive interactions visits by artists.

The program will also include artist-led workshops, lectures and participatory events including tours to promote public engagement with contemporary art. A range of collateral events and screenings in partnership with local organizations, institutions and galleries are also on the cards. To complement the INSERT2014 exhibition and other programs, a three-day multi-disciplinary symposium called "The City in the 21st Century" is also planned.

The event will open with a lecture by Kendell Geers.
"Marcel Duchamp, a Silent Animist"

"Marcel Duchamp has inspired countless reams and rhymes of analysis and interpretation, but still the magic persists and he remains as enigmatic and mysterious an artist today as he was in 1917. From a contemporary artist's perspective, I shall add one more interpretation and invent another way of seeing the old man of history as a shaman. In part historical, in part fantasy, in part channelling the spirit of Duchamp himself, a lecture, a performance, a fantasy and an other way of seeing his story"

The lecture will take place on Friday 31 January 2014.

INSERT2014 runs from 31 January - 28 February 2014.
