Melvin Edwards is included in the group exhibition Kalunga presented by Transmission, Glasgow in collaboration with Ana Beatriz Almeida. The exhibition centres on Cameroonian philosopher Achille Mbembe's analysis of necropolitics, the ways in which death and violence may be used to exert power over the living. This exhibition is supported by Glasgow International.

Theater of Operations at MoMA PS1 is a group exhibition that examines the legacies of American-led military engagement in Iraq. Although the 1991 Gulf War was short, the conflict marked the start of a lengthy period of military involvement and more than a decade of sanctions. The invasion in 2003 galvanized a broader international response, prompting anti-war protests around the globe. Theater of Operations explores the effects of these wars on artists based in Iraq and its diasporas, as well as responses to the war from artists in the West.

The exhibition of Melvin Edwards (b. 1937 in Houston, Texas) brings together works of his celebrated series Lynch Fragments, produced from the years 1960 to today. In these wall sculptures, the artist welds various metal objects, such as chains and tools, to deal with issues such as race, violence, work and slavery, specifically in the context of the African diaspora. This will be an important in-depth show of the artist, considered one of the leading references among active African-American artists.
