Rivane Neuenschwander is included in 'Le monde à plat' at Boghossian Foundation, Villa Empain, Brussels, Belgium

Le monde à plat is a group exhibition at Boghossian Foundation that investigates the multitude of ways that art represents the world: cartography, frontiers and travel, social and ecological shocks. The exhibition spans a wide variety of media including drawing, photography, video, installation and others.

Amongst the works included in the exhibition is Rivane Neuenschwander's digital video work 'Contingent'. The work presents a map of the world rendered in honey, which is slowly consumed by a swarm of ants. The honey continents gradually erode; landmasses become fragmented islands. The title 'contingent' suggests a situation where one thing relies on the existence of another, pointing to humanity's over-consumption of finite resources. Neuenschwander's films have regularly featured ants, whose social organisation suggest parallels with human activities.
