Stephen Balkenhol to Unveil a Large Outdoor Sculpture in Steinhagen, Germany

25 September 2015
German sculptor Stephan Balkenhol is to produce a large outdoor sculpture. The larger-than-life figure represents a kneeling man who looks up towards the sky and is dressed in a white shirt and black trousers. It is 5.70 metres high and weighs nearly 3 tons.

Originally Balkenhol had designed the figure for the Freedom and Unity Monument in Berlin in 2010. Despite being awarded with a prize in this competition the large kneeling man will now be realised in Steinhagen, eastern Westphalia, Germany.

It has been bought by the Hörmann group, Europe's leading supplier of doors and gates. The sculpture will be coloured bronze and placed in a public area in front of the company's new display and training centre.

The sculpture will be unveiled on 25 September 2015 and will be accompanied by a catalogue.
