Yinka Shonibare MBE in 'A Masked Ball, 18th Century and Contemporary Art' at Chateau de Nyon, Switzerland

Yinka Shonibare MBE's film ‘Un Ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball)', 2004, goes on display at Chateau de Nyon in an exhibition featuring artists who take the 18th century as a central theme in their work.

‘Un Ballo in Maschera' was Shonibare's first film and is based on an opera of the same name by Guiseppe Verdi which looked at the life and assassination in 1792 of Sweden's King Gustav III. The king's passion for the arts, excess and theatricality make him a fascinating subject through which Shonibare could explore the implications of self-serving wealth and authority within a visually seductive setting.
