Huma Bhabha

24 November 2010 - 29 January 2011
Stephen Friedman Gallery is delighted to present its first ever exhibition of work by Huma Bhabha. This is the artist's first solo exhibition in the UK and follows her highly praised commission for this year's Whitney Biennial in New York. Running concurrently with this exhibition in London are two further solo presentations in New York City; at Salon 94 and Peter Blum Gallery. These three exhibitions offer an unprecedented opportunity to explore the work of this compelling artist in depth.

Beatriz Milhazes

11 October 2010 - 20 November 2010
Stephen Friedman Gallery is delighted to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes. This is the artist's fourth solo exhibition at the gallery and anticipates her forthcoming one-person show at the Beyeler Foundation in Basel, in 2011.

Clare Barclay: Flat Peach

3 September 2010 - 2 October 2010
Stephen Friedman Gallery is delighted to announce an exhibition of new work by British artist Claire Barclay. Barclay is one of her generation's foremost sculptors. Turned wood, rawhide, soft leather, machined brass and woven straw are some of the materials that coalesce as the precious and the everyday, the hand-woven and the mechanically produced, are brought to the fore. Familiar forms are hinted at in these careful assemblages. Each sculpted piece teeters somewhere on the brink between the figurative and the abstract, between the ambiguous and the referential.

Tasters' Choice

12 June 2010 - 17 July 2010
Stephen Friedman Gallery is delighted to present ‘Tasters' Choice,' an exhibition of art and design. Six internationally renowned private collectors have been asked to act as curators and to each choose four artists who play key roles in the formation of their collections. To showcase each selection, six separate domestic environments have been especially created by American interior designer and private furniture dealer Vance Trimble. They include an entrance hall, a study, a library, a bedroom, a sitting room and a dining room.

Tom Friedman and Steve Wolfe

22 April 2010 - 29 May 2010
Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to announce a two-person exhibition of American artists Tom Friedman and Steve Wolfe. Tom Friedman returns to the gallery for his fourth presentation in over fourteen years of collaboration. Friedman is currently the subject of a major mid-career survey exhibition entitled ‘Up in the Air' at Magasin 3, Stockholm. This is Steve Wolfe's inaugural show in the Gallery. Wolfe is also the subject of a one-person exhibition which originated at the Whitney Museum of American Art and is currently on view at the Menil Collection, Houston.

Wayne Gonzales

12 March 2010 - 17 April 2010
Returning to the gallery for his second solo exhibition, Gonzales presents an innovative group of new paintings composed of both abstract and figurative work. Contemplative, evocative and mysterious, the work uses a rigorous formal structure to mine the processes of painting and perception. With this new body of work the artist draws parallels between the figurative and the abstract and suggests that the distinction may not be so fixed and rigid. Rather, the artist proposes two manifestations of the same reality, two parts of the same, larger whole.

Cornelius Quabeck: Short Straw

26 January 2010 - 6 March 2010
Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to present 'Short Straw', a body of new work by German painter, Cornelius Quabeck. This is the artist's second solo exhibition at the gallery. Quabeck combines process-led, intuitive painting with figurative compositions. His previous works have portrayed rock stars and fictional characters in energetic portraits that relay the artist's painterly skill. In this vibrant new body of work Quabeck shifts the focus of his attention to the natural world, partly inspired by a recent residency in Marin County, California.
