Caroline Walker features in 'I'm Not Afraid Of Ghosts'
Caroline Walker features in TCollection's exhibition I'm Not Afraid of in I'm Not Afraid Of Ghosts, alongside other contemporary artists including Marlene Dumas, Tracey Emin, Jenny Holzer, and Issy Wood. The exhibition explores themes relating to the body, female or otherwise, liberation, and the cyclical historical narratives that connect them.
Women take centre stage in this exhibition, and occupy multiple roles: mother, caregiver, friend, ally, confidant, and adversary. Figuration and abstraction become a site of resistance and defiance by tapping into the ambiguity and complexity of human relationships, experiences, and emotions. The works act as a testament to the power of choice in determining one’s own reality. Expressions of love and lust, violence and play, reality and fantasy, are depicted in subjective and uncertain scenarios, which together reinforce the need to search for a new narrative – one in which all people can find joy in liberation and self-actualisation.
Curated by Svetlana Marich, founder of Malevich.io, and Sarah McCrory, inaugural Director of Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA), I’m Not Afraid Of Ghosts is the first public presentation of work from the TCollection, the private collection of entrepreneur and art collector Tatiana Fileva.
The presentation also includes work by Shadi Al-Atallah, Hannah Bays, Cecily Brown, Heidi Bucher, Anne Collier, William Eggleston, Jadé Fadojutimi, Sanya Kantarovsky, Simone Leigh, Sarah Lucas, Sally Mann, Maki Na Kamura, Christina Quarles, and Scout Zabinski, with a site-specific sound installation by Oliver Leith.
