Tonico Lemos Auad

The London-based Brazilian artist Tonico Lemos Auad (b.1968) is the subject of a major solo exhibition at De La Warr Pavilion in East Sussex, London. The exhibition will respond to De La Warr Pavilion's proximity to the natural elements and the town's history as a seaside resort and its relationship to mental health and well-being.

Auad has exhibited internationally with works that investigate materiality, sensuality, process and the relationship between the audience and their environment. Often responding specifically in relation to the site and its people, Auad inspects ideas around act of faith, mending and repairing, resistance and endeavour to overcome adversity.

This exhibition follows from his major solo show in 2015 at Pivô, São Paulo, Brazil which was curated by Kiki Mazzuchelli.
