Overview

Jonathan Baldock: 'I'm Still Learning’ is the third edition in the series ‘An Involuntary Trace’, curated by This is Jackalope for La Casa Encendida. Opening with a performance by Baldock and his collaborator, fellow artist Rafał Zajko, this immersive presentation suggests an alternative reality from which to recover our ability to connect to the elements, synchronising once again with our natural surroundings and forging a new relationship with the planet. This new installation comprises sculptural deities which pay tribute to the four (or five) elements of nature: earth, wind, fire, water (and ether). At the core of the exhibition is a theatrical stage which represents the quintessence of things and makes reference to the cycle of time borne out by the seasons of the year. A multi-sensory experience, the presentation includes a soundscape designed by Luke Barton, reproducing barely audible murmurings and abstract buzzing to give voice to objects and organic materials, and scents designed by Alex Margo Arden, comprising...
