Thomas Hirschhorn: Representing Violence in Art

Tokyo Art Party, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France

Artist Thomas Hirschhornart historian Mathilde Leïchlé and Guillaume DésangesPresident of  Palais de Tokyo, explore the representation of violence in art. Leïchlé addresses the 19th century, questioning the notion of male gaze and the violence – particularly sexual – inflicted on women, as well as the way in which this violence was represented and perceived. Désanges and Hirschhorn discuss the representation of violence in contemporary creation, and the way in which the reading of a work evolves over time.
