In Conversation: Edward Enninful OBE and Yinka Shonibare
As part of Art Basel’s Conversation program, Edward Enninful OBE, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of the media and entertainment company EE72, hosts a series of talks exploring the creative and cultural impact of the 1990s. These discussions serve as a public prelude to Enninful’s upcoming exhibition, The 90s, opening at Tate Britain in October 2026.
Each panel will feature an in-person discussion between Enninful and a key figure from the decade’s art and cultural landscape, including artists Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, Sonia Boyce DBE RA, Mark Leckey, and photographer Juergen Teller. Through intimate dialogue, Enninful will examine how the 1990s became a turning point for the merging of fashion, art and photography. This conversations will take place in English with simultaneous subtitling in French.
Shonibare gained international acclaim for sculptures, installations, and photographs that reimagined European history through the lens of African identity, using Dutch wax fabrics as a provocative symbol of cultural hybridity. His work from the 90s established a new postcolonial vocabulary that continues to be as alluring as it is challenging.
Yinka Shonibare features in The 90s a landmark exhibition curated by Edward Enninful at Tate Britain, on display from 1 October 2026 to 14 February 2027.
