Mamma Andersson curates 'Stargazer'

Sven-Harrys Art Museum, Stockholm, Sweden

Mamma Andersson has curated 'Stargazer', the current exhibition at Sven-Harrys Art Museum in Stockholm.

As spectators, we can take special pleasure in entering the pictorial world of an artist, and letting ourselves get carried away by the mood. Sometimes, the expression and imagery of an artist can be so powerful and specific that they change the way we see reality. They enrich us.

In this exhibition the museum has invited the artist Mamma Andersson to show her role models and sources of inspiration, the works of other artists. Some of them have been by her side throughout her career, while others are new acquaintances.

There are works by artists as fundamentally different as Dick Bengtsson and Ernst Josephson - or the performance and installation artist Lisa Jeannin. Kerstin Hansson's army of friendly plaster figures is contrasted to Åke Hodell's audio work, and Sonja Nilsson's ambiguous filmic portrait of a young woman stands against Lucas Cranach's famous portrait of Venus.

Karin Mamma Andersson, born in 1962, is one of Sweden's most highly-regarded contemporary artists. Her work is sought after by Swedish and international museums and private collectors. She represented Sweden at the Venice biennale in 2003 and was the recipient of the Sven-Harry Foundation Scholarship in 2004. In 2006, she won the the Carnegie Art Awards first prize of SEK one million. Her works were featured in a solo exhibition at Moderna Museet in 2007.
