Yinka Shonibare CBE and David Shrigley in 'The Lie of the Land'

MK Gallery, Milton Keynes, UK

‘The Lie of the Land' at MK Gallery charts how industrialisation transformed the meaning of leisure in Britain. Capturing the visionary spirit of historical designs for the use of public space, the exhibition explores some of the aspirations that underpin our built environments today.

Drawing inspiration and seeking lessons from the past, the exhibition highlights campaigns to democratise space, from the 17th century egalitarian Levellers to the 1930s Ramblers. Exploring how communities have been excluded as a result of race, gender, disability and class, the exhibition displays works that tackle these themes by artists including Jo Spence, Rose Finn-Kelcey and Ingrid Pollard, and Yinka Shonibare CBE.
