Kendell Geers features in 'Höhenrausch (Like in Paradise)'
Presented above the rooftops of Linz in the Upper Austrian Culture Quarter, ‘Höhenrausch’ is a large-scale artistic and cultural event. In 2021 this group presentation explores the theme of ‘As in Paradise’. Around 40 international artists will present their interpretation of paradise including Jumana Emil Abboud, Mohammed Bourouissa, Candice Breitz, Breathe Earth Collective, Sam Bunn, Claudia Czimek, Marjolijn Dijkman, Inci Evenir, Fallen Fruit, Kendell Geers. Florian Graf, Gregor Graf, Martine Gutierrez, Sheng-Chien Hsiao, Anna Jermolaewa, Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, Elisabeth Kramer, Peter Land, Sonja Meller, Yuan Goang-Ming, Nabuqi, Fujiko Nakaya, Ella Raidel, Riedler Reiner, Eva Schlegel, Edith Stauber and Katharina Struber.
Amongst the works included are images from ‘Suburbia’, a series of photographic prints by Kendell Geers. The prints capture security signs on the walls of private residences and gated communities of the wealthy suburbs of Johannesburg. Using the realism of documentary style photography, the series illustrates the heavily fortified boundary and enduring economic divide between black and white in post-apartheid South Africa.
