Yinka Shonibare CBE RA in 'Diversity United'

Tempelhof Airport, Berlin, Germany; New Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, Russia and Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France

'Diversity United' is a major cross-border exhibition which travels from Tempelhof Airport, Berlin, Germany to New Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow, Russia and Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France. The show brings together works by 90 contemporary artists to reveal the vitality and diversity of European art after the fall of the Iron Curtain whilst underlining the importance of intercultural dialogue in times of political uncertainty.

Spanning disparate geography and different generations, genders and regions, the exhibition also traverses the mediums of painting, sculpture, video and new media, photography, installation, drawing and object art. The works on display are united in their concern with universal themes such as freedom and dignity, dialogue and conflict, political and personal identity, democracy and its erosion, (fear of) the future, solidarity and separation, the current pandemic and its consequences.

Artists include Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Monica Bonvicini, Olafur Eliasson,  Mona Hatoum, Emilia and Ilya Kabakov, Alicja Kwade, Roman Ondak, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, Wolfgang Tillmans, Erwin Wurm, Nil Yalter and Slavs and Tatars.

'Diversity United' is a joint project of the Bonn Foundation for Art and Culture and the renowned Tretyakov Gallery Moscow. The exhibition is under the patronage of Federal President Steinmeier and Presidents Putin and Macron.
