Sarah Ball's painting enters the Arts Council Collection
We are delighted to announce Arts Council Collection have acquired Sarah Ball's painting Petros (2025) as part of their Frieze Acquisition Fund.
This intimate work portrays artist, costume and set designer Petros Kourtellaris, whom Ball met through her daughter. Posing in a three-quarter profile, the meticulously rendered details of his glamorous look are revealed – showing off a bejewelled earring, delicate ostrich feather hat and the sumptuously soft texture of his fuzzy roll neck jumper. Here, Ball resists the fast-paced nature in which we consume images on social media by instead inviting close observation. This results in a sense of timelessness that speaks to the many influences on her practice, including Dutch portraiture and contemporary film.
“This acquisition is an incredible honour for me. It feels immensely significant to have my work placed within such an important collection. I am deeply grateful to the Arts Council for this recognition,” says the artist.
