Deborah Roberts is included in ‘Still I Rise'

Kidspace Gallery and Art-Making Studio, MASS MoCA, Massachusetts, USA

'Still I Rise' at Kidspace Gallery and Art-Making Studio At MASS MoCA, Massachusetts is a group exhibition that refers back to Maya Angelou's 1978 verse of the same name. The show brings together artists who use portraiture to contest the misogynistic nature of historical figuration, typically painted by white men for white men.

Challenging and reinterpreting traditional portrayals, the work on show aims to introduce new and nuanced depictions of women and womanhood. The exhibition inclkuldes new works by Gustave Blache III, E2 - Kleinveld & Julien, Genevieve Gaignard, Tim Okamura, and Deborah Roberts.

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise
