Jonathan Baldock in 'Figures in a Landscape'

Gemäldegalerie, Berlin, Germany

'Figures in a Landscape' is an interdisciplinary exhibition at Gemäldegalerie, Berlin. A dialogue between visual art and dance, European and Chinese culture, the exhibition is a meditation on the possibilities of living and moving painting and sculpture.

The exhibition evolved as an exploration of themes that resonate with costumes designed by British artist Jonathan Baldock. Independent German dance choreographers Jutta Hall and Dieter Baumann developed work exploring themes from the human form to Chinese opera, European abstraction and Medieval religious practice. Arranged in multiple iterations throughout the performance, the costumes evolve to create new images and meanings in tandem with the dancers' bodies.
