At Frieze Masters 2019, Stephen Friedman Gallery is delighted to present a group show of post-war geometric abstraction with Argentine artist Manuel Espinosa as its focus. A founding member of the Concrete-Invention Art Association in Buenos Aires, Espinosa was a leading protagonist of the abstract painting movement in Argentina in the mid-twentieth century. Focusing on several trips Espinosa made to Europe during the ‘50s and ‘60s, the presentation will explore his connections with European artists of the time and their subsequent influence on his work. Dr Flavia Frigeri, independent curator and art historian, has been commissioned to write a new essay to accompany the presentation.
