Stephen Friedman Gallery returns to Art Basel Hong Kong with a dynamic group exhibition that delves into themes of identity, memory, and human connection.

Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a new installation by British artist Holly Hendry for Frieze New York. 

Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a new body of work by Brazilian artist Luiz Zerbini for Frieze Los Angeles, marking the artist's debut exhibition in the city. The solo presentation includes dynamic paintings and monotypes and shows the immersive and seductive quality of Brazil’s natural environment.

Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a new body of work by Swedish artist Andreas Eriksson for Frieze LA. Eriksson’s first US solo presentation comprises paintings and tapestries, and reflects the artist's ongoing fascination with the natural landscape.

Bringing together a diverse range of media including painting, sculpture, textiles and works on paper, the presentation is characterised by the artists’ bold exploration of colour. Vibrant new sculptures by Baldock and Shonibare feature alongside expressive paintings by Gibson and Zerbini who both explore pattern and optical effects.

Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a group exhibition of artists focusing on themes of diasporic cultures, migration and displacement. The exhibition explores the cultural inspirations the artists have found through travel and in connecting with their heritage.

For Art Basel Hong Kong 2022, Stephen Friedman Gallery presents new paintings and works on paper by Andreas Eriksson.

Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Jonathan Baldock for Frieze New York 2022.

For Frieze Los Angeles 2022, Stephen Friedman Gallery presents works by Grenadian-British artist Denzil Forrester. The solo exhibition comprises new paintings and drawings that take as their reference the artist’s childhood in the West Indies and the dynamic energy of the London reggae and dub nightclub scene in the 1980s. The presentation precedes major solo exhibitions at Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City and the ICA Miami in 2023. 

For Art Basel Miami Beach 2021, Stephen Friedman Gallery brings together works by key artists from its programme in a presentation that includes painting, sculpture, textile and drawing. Featuring Marina Adams, Melvin Edwards, Tom Friedman, Wayne Gonzales, Jim Hodges and Deborah Roberts (American); Mamma Andersson (Swedish); Leilah Babirye (Ugandan), Yinka Shonibare CBE RA (British-Nigerian), Denzil Forrester (British-Grenadian), Jonathan Baldock, Sarah Ball, Holly Hendry and David Shrigley (British); Jeffrey Gibson (Choctaw-Cherokee); Juan Araujo (Venezuelan); Tonico Lemos Auad and Luiz Zerbini (Brazilian).

Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to return to West Bund Art & Design in Shanghai with a group presentation centred on painting. This selection is characterised by a focus on expressive forms and dynamic use of colour. Artists include Marina Adams, Mamma Andersson, Leliah Babirye, Sarah Ball, Lisa Brice, Ilona Keserü, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, Caroline Walker and Luiz Zerbini. 

Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by African-American artist Deborah Roberts at Frieze London 2021. This coincides with the artist’s first institutional solo show in Europe at The Bluecoat, Liverpool from October 2021. This body of work continues Roberts’ investigation of the challenges encountered by Black children as they respond to social constructs perpetuated by the white gaze and western visual culture.

For the 2021 edition of Frieze Masters, Stephen Friedman Gallery brings together a group of historical works from the 1970s through 1990s centred around the work of Japanese artist Jiro Takamatsu in relation to his contemporaries. Positioning his work alongside key examples by Richard Diebenkorn, Agnes Martin and Anne Truitt, the presentation looks at their shared exploration of two-dimensional space across a range of media including painting, works on paper and sculpture. 

On the occasion of its twenty-fifth year at Art Basel, Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a group exhibition that highlights key milestones in the gallery’s history and its longstanding relationship with the fair.

At this year's Art Basel Unlimited, Stephen Friedman Gallery presents 'The Hunter's Dream' by Venezuelan artist Juan Araujo.

Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to participate in The Armory Show’s inaugural edition at Javits Center, New York. The presentation focuses on sculpture, bringing together three-dimensional works in a diverse range of media by Leilah Babirye, Jonathan Baldock, Melvin Edwards, Tom Friedman, Channing Hansen, Holly Hendry, Jim Hodges, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA and Jiro Takamatsu. Also on display are works by Jeffrey Gibson and Tau Lewis, who recently joined the gallery.

Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to present works by Mamma Andersson, Stephan Balkenhol and Andreas Eriksson for NOMAD St Moritz 2021. Set in Chesa Planta, a historic mansion in Samedan within the heart of the Swiss Alps, the exhibition explores reflections of nature in classical sculpture, painting and tapestry. 

Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to present ‘I – We – They’ a show of works by Denzil Forrester, Rivane Neuenschwander and Deborah Roberts for ‘OVR: Portals’, Art Basel’s first curator-led edition of its Online Viewing Rooms. The display comprises paintings, works on paper and textiles that examine the curatorial theme of social divides and ideas of community and identity.

For Art Basel Hong Kong 2021, Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to present a solo presentation of new and recent works by British artist David Shrigley.

Stephen Friedman Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by British artist Sarah Ball at Frieze New York 2021. This will be the first major presentation of the artist’s work since the gallery announced representation of Ball in November 2020. 

For Art Basel Miami Beach Online Viewing Rooms, Stephen Friedman Gallery’s presentation ‘In Real Life’ focuses on figuration and depictions of the human form through painting, sculpture and works on paper. 

For Frieze 2020, Stephen Friedman Gallery presents respective solo exhibitions by Holly Hendry and Denzil Forrester. In lieu of the fair being physically realised, the projects are exhibited in a specially designed space at 30 Old Burlington Street in October.

This Online Viewing Room identifies the different ways in which drawing informs the sculptural practices of artists, bringing together works by Claire Barclay, Melvin Edwards, Tom Friedman, Kendell Geers, Jim Hodges, Yinka Shonibare CBE, David Shrigley and Jiro Takamatsu.The presentation includes personal commentaries from a number of the artists explaining the relationship between drawing and sculpture in their practices.
